Moss, Pat - String Quartet No. 2 - 'Evergreens'
Ref: 4--001
Ourtext's first publication by a living composer. Pat Moss is a Yorkshire string player/composer who studied under George Nicholson. Her String Quartet No. 2, 'Evergreens' celebrates the life of two friends, Michael Green and Colette, keen musicians. It was written at a time when they were diagnosed with cancer, and their names are embedded in cypher form in the quartet. Pat Moss's style tends towards the mercurial, with frequent changes of direction. Fresh and often spiky but not avant garde, this work has moments of melting lyricism. It benefits from expressive playing and a lively dynamic range. The score will be helpful in putting the work together, and the package includes a free CD of an excellent recording of the work made by the Sterling Quartet. see sample score listen to audio clip - a brief extract from the second movement's central interlude. |
