About Ourtext

Ourtext is the trading name of John Harding.  It is a small-scale publisher of chamber music, principally for strings.  Ourtext is based in London, with agents in Australia, Germany, Holland, Sweden and the USA.   All music is individually printed to order on 100 gsm A3 paper, folded and stapled, and mailed from London.

Ourtext sets itself high standards both for the musical quality of its repertoire and the clarity of its engraving.

Ourtext should not be confused with urtext.   In other words, while we have nothing against rigorous textual scholarship, our central task is to make an original contribution to chamber music, whether by adapting, editing or arranging existing music, or by promoting new work.  In the catalogue an item that is an arrangement or transcription of a work originally written for other instruments is indicated by (arr) after the title.

Ourtext is also gradually taking on the task of maintaining and upgrading Merton Music, which republishes out-of-print and out-of-copyright string chamber music.   Its catalogue currently numbers some 1,300 items [at irreducibly low prices].
